In this two part online workshop we will be exploring the techniques (and associated training practices) as demonstrated by Miyagi Chojun Sensei from ten historic photographs representing different eras of his training. These photographs date back as far as 1910 (pre formal karate styles) through the 1940s.
During these workshops we will look at the techniques themselves, while also venturing beneath the surface to determine the deeper principles of the techniques shown and point out the associated vital training practices.
These workshops are a fascinating study that will be sure to enhance and energize your application practices while also providing a historical perspective to your martial art. You do not need to know Goju ryu karate, or Goju ryu kata to participate as the focus is on two person application drills.
What you will learn:
Perspective on classical karate applications from these historic photographs that include: ashi waza (leg attacks and catches), gyakute waza (joint attacks/manipulation), atemi waza (various striking techniques), fundamental classical karate practices that develop necessary skills (kakie, uke harai, ude tanren, etc.), and more.
