Suparinpei is a long and complex kata with numerous movements. In this workshop, we will examine each movement in detail—looking not only at technical execution, but more importantly, the why behind the movement in relation to combative application.

We will explore:

• The opening sequence and its functional meaning
• Mawashi-uke / tora-guchi and their variations
• Turning mechanics and how to perform them efficiently
• Furi-geri (swing kick and spin), including how to progressively build toward a full 360-degree turn, with practical modifications for different abilities, for those of us who don't have the ability of Sandra Sanchez
• Tobi-geri (jumping kick) and its application
• Lesser-known concepts within the kata, including nuun

In addition to physical execution, we will discuss the underlying concepts of the kata, its place within the Goju-Ryu curriculum, and its broader significance.
